Shut down in May 2025. Was Nigeria's leading open banking API.
Okra built open banking infrastructure in Nigeria, with APIs that let fintechs connect to bank accounts in real time for payments, identity and income verification. Customers included Renmoney, Branch, Bamboo and AIICO Insurance, and it competed directly with Mono. It ceased operations in May 2025 after five years, and returned roughly three years of remaining runway to its investors rather than spending it down. Rising cloud costs after naira depreciation had come to consume most of its revenue, which prompted the launch of its own cloud product, Nebula, in October 2024. Co-founder Fara Ashiru Jituboh left in May 2025 and joined UK startup Kernel as head of engineering. Staff received six months of severance.
