Find or run a local tech community with built-in discovery
The long-running platform for organising recurring in-person groups and events, with its own audience of people actively looking for things to attend.
Use when
You are starting a recurring community from scratch and need people to find you.
Skip when
You already have an audience elsewhere - the subscription buys discovery you no longer need.
The reason to use Meetup over a free alternative is discovery: people browse it looking for events, which no Slack or WhatsApp group gives you. Organiser subscriptions are charged in USD and are the main cost. Active tech communities exist in Lagos, Nairobi, Accra, Cape Town and Cairo; outside those, expect to build the audience yourself.
